Description

Externship is a full-time two year position. Our current opening is ​at our Arvada office Tuesday until 7pm, Thursdays until 7pm, Fridays and Saturdays (your choice of schedule). Externs provide individual and dyadic therapy to children ​adolescents and young adults who have survived trauma. They ​use techniques of play therapy and EMDR.  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic skills in counseling practices and methods.
  • Plan, implement, evaluate and report activities conducted to supervisor.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and prepare written and electronic documents.
  • Communicate clearly, both in person and by email and telephone.
  • Establish rapport with others as a requisite for healthy and therapeutic relationships.
  • Present oneself in an appropriately personable and professional manner to clients, staff and parents.
  • Receive and utilize constructive feedback regarding performance, presentation and relationships with others.
  • Effectively weigh and evaluate personal needs, client needs, and the aims and policies of Blue Channel Therapy and to respond and to negotiate these competing needs as appropriate.
  • Remain calm, supportive and professional in psychological emergencies and/or crises.
  • An enhanced level of self-awareness as to how you relate to others and an ability to effectively modulate this personal style as conditions warrant.
Required Qualifications
  • 21 years old
  • Master’s degree from an accredited graduate degree program in a clinical human services-based field. (e.g. MSW, MA, MS)
  • Must hold one of the following credentials SWC, LSW or an LPCC from DORA.
  • Be able to pass a background check which includes fingerprinting.
  • Be able to demonstrate no active TB
  • Be prepared to manage children who may require crisis prevention and intervention or de-escalation. These activities may be physically strenuous.
  • Attend two 20 hour EMDR basic training and 12 hours of advanced training and 30 hours of consultation.
  • Must have experience working or volunteering with children.

Bonuses

Supervision and Consultation is included and Comprehensive
  • Extern receives direct individual supervision from a licensed clinical supervisor weekly.
  • Extern group supervision is provided for 2 hours per month. 
  • 20 hours EMDR consultation group
  • 10 hours EMDR consultation individual

Benefits

$50 an hour for completed sessions a base pay
$5 per hour (for all clinical hours) differential for Saturday sessions 
$5 per hour (for all clinical hours) differential for being able to conduct sessions in Spanish

Responsibilities

Responsibilities Include:
  • Sustain knowledge of professional ethical standards and a commitment to keeping and working within these ethical standards.
  • Interact with all staff, caregivers, and clients in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Provide individual, family and group counseling to clients on a regularly scheduled basis or through crisis intervention.
  • Attend group and individual supervision meetings on a weekly basis and with an openness to learning and receiving feedback.
  • Complete all required clinical documentation via electronic recordkeeping system within 24-hours.
  • Scheduling 27 hours for full-time and billing 22 hours per week. 
  • Attend and complete required training and meetings.
  • Perform additional job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned which may include administrative tasks.
  • 60% of caseload is ages 5-12 with the rest being 0-5 or 13+
